Pacific Crest Weekend 2008

On Thursday evening my wife (Kelly), and two boys (John and Eli) piled in the volvo wagon and headed for sunriver for what has become our annual trek to Pacific Crest Weekend http://www.racecenter.com/pacificcrest/. This year we met up with Kevin and Kelley Menard great friends who operate transition bikes. It was fun to see them and show Kevin how Liquid Gold has come to life since he was one of the product originators. On Friday, against my better judgement on pre-race preperation, Kevin and I headed on a killer 25 mile mountain bike ride outside of Bend with his friend Chris and buddy Eric. It was fun to ride his "covert" transition bike through some killer scenery and downhill switchbacks. I hadn't hit the trails on a bike in a while so it felt like old times. Sunday came around with Kevin and Kelly tearing it up in the Olympic Duathlon Relay, Kelly doing the 10K while I did the Olympic Duathlon myself. Even though I am in better condition than last year I struggled to recover from the Friday ride as well as unable to combat the headwinds on the ride and ended up with a slower time than last year. However the sense of accomplishment is always the same for finishing.
